Good grief. Here's another dumb jock incident. Hofstra University's new head basketball coach, who has yet to step on the court, has resigned in disgrace after being arrested last week on a DUI charge after falling asleep at a traffic light. Tim Welsh is now history after signing a 5 year $3M contact to replace long time head coach Tom Pecora.
Two hours after arrest, Welsh's blood alcohol level was more than double the legal .08 limit as he registered in at .18. Hofstra suspended him immediately following word of arrest on drunk driving related charges. Welsh stepped up today and did the right thing. His quick resignation affords Hofstra's athletic program ample time to search for a dignified replacement.
It's not often a coach quits before his first game (unless your Bill Belichick). Add Welsh's name to the long list of sports personalities in trouble with the law. For more names, crimes and athletic scandals visit "SportsRagePage.com"
